Negotiating is an art whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, but it can become overwhelming if you are an innately shy person.

Here are the top 7 ways to overcome anxiety when negotiating for anything from a raise to a promotion to a large purchase or sale:

1. Knowledge is power.
Do your research and back your demands with facts.

2. Know thy goals.
Have realistic expectations and set some goals for yourself in terms of an acceptable outcome.

3. Practice makes perfect.
If your meeting is in person- have a script ready and practice it with your partner, colleague or family members.

4. Options matter.
Offering options shows your flexibility and it makes reaching a resolution all the better and easier.

5. Do onto others...
Always consider the other party's position. What would you do if you were in their shoes? This way, everyone reaches a satisfactory resolution.

6. It's not always about you.
Sometimes you may not reach the results you were hoping for and that's ok. Timing may be the reason or the other party may not be in a position to make the decision.

7. Desperation is a bad look.
Always consider the worst case scenario- chances are that scenario is not as bad as you may believe. Go into the negotiation knowing you can walk away at any point.

Today, a well-written post interview thank you note isn't just a courtesy, it's a requirement. When you are nearing the end of the interview process, it's likely that the remaining candidates have similar qualifications. A well written thank you note can be the deciding factor. Conversely, a poorly written thank you note can quickly take you out of the running. Here are 3 tips that will set your thank you note apart from the rest:

1. Attention to Detail:
It's better to forgo the thank-you note altogether over sending a poorly written one. Often times, candidates are so excited after the interview, they shoot off a quick email without reviewing it. Taking the time to slow down and triple check for grammatical and spelling errors is crucial.

2. Make it Personal:
No one enjoys receiving spam emails. Similarly, employers can tell when you send out the same templated email after each interview. Post interview, it's important to jot down a list of highlights in your phone or notebook regarding your conversations. Adding these highlights to the thank-you email will show you were an active listener.

3. Be Prompt:
It's important to send the thank you note within 24 hours of the interview. If you are someone who often forgets the final details and steps, create a reminder after the interview is scheduled to end.
